Dorsett Barnwell (born December 2, 1987) is a US-American boxer best known to win heavyweight Bronze at the Junior World Championships 2006 in Agadir.
6-2 Barnwell, a puncher with fast hands, took up boxing in 2002 under Dan Campbell who is now USA Boxing National Coaching Director.
In 2004 he was shot in the arm at a party but could continue boxing.
In 2006 he participated in the Golden Gloves (seniors) but lost his second fight to Erick Vega.
He did become U 19 national champion in Kansas City, though, and with 30 amateur fights to his credit he went to the junior (U19) world championships. He had a first round bye, then beat Uzbekistan’s Muralimov Ahvov in the quarterfinal round 28-18 in his first major international bout, but lost his semifinal to highly touted Russian Sergey Kalchugin by RSCO. He was one of three American Bronze medallists, the others Luis Yanez and Michael Hunter (American boxer).
